It is with great sadness that we share the news that our much-loved Family Support Officer, Sister Edith Le Riche, passed away peacefully on 11th December 2025.
Sister Edith dedicated most of her life to serving the local community and worked tirelessly to support families. Many within our school community will remember her kindness, warmth, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of staff, pupils, and parents alike.
Before joining St Peter’s 15 years ago, Sister Edith taught at Barlow High School and St Richard’s Primary School. During her time at St Peter’s, she became a valued and cherished member of staff, working closely with the Chaplaincy, RE Faculty, Pastoral Team, and Senior Leadership Team. She also supported the school for many years as an Exam Invigilator.
Guided by her belief in “loving her neighbour as herself,” Sister Edith supported families in numerous ways, including housing guidance, provision of food and essentials, and offering advice and pastoral care. She was also an enthusiastic fundraiser for her Missionary Order and generously supported the RNLI and the Seamen’s Mission in Liverpool, personally delivering warm clothing donated by staff and pupils.
Despite being unwell during the past year, Sister Edith continued to visit school to spend time with staff and pupils, often sharing conversations over a hot chocolate. In September 2025, a Mass of Thanksgiving was held at St Mary’s, Levenshulme, to celebrate her 25 years of service in Manchester. Shortly afterwards, she returned to her Religious Community in Canterbury.
Sister Edith will be remembered with great affection and gratitude by all who knew her. We ask our school community to keep Sister Edith and her Religious Community in your prayers.
