At St. Peter’s, it is our policy that all students wear school uniform when attending school, or when representing the school at events.

We believe that a uniform plays a key role in:

  • Promoting the ethos of a school
  • Providing a sense of belonging and identity
  • Setting an appropriate tone for education
  • Reducing peer pressure for the latest clothes

Our uniform policy has been ratified by governors in consultation with key stakeholders. We welcome donations of pre-loved school branded items, as well as non-branded items which can be made available free of charge by contacting the relevant Head of Year.

Uniform Policy

Compulsory ITEMS

  • Maroon blazer with St. Peter’s crest
  • Maroon V-neck jumper with St. Peter’s crest
  • White shirt and St. Peter’s school tie
  • Plain black trousers with a black belt and black socks
  • Girls who would prefer to wear skirts must wear plain black tights (skirts need to be worn with black tights from September 2025)
  • Sensible and suitable black shoes (Manchester weather is not the best)
  • An appropriately sized bag to carry school equipment
  • A reusable water bottle

Pupils must wear their blazer around school at all times, failure to do so may lead to a sanction. Pupils can remove their blazer in lessons only with permission of the teacher.

ITEMs NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL

  • Trainers, open-toed sandals, boots, high heels or any shoes with coloured laces, stitching or logos.
  • Outdoor jackets, caps, hats and scarves
  • Jeans, leggings or tracksuits
  • Hooded tops under or over their blazer
  • White socks
  • Smart watches – such as Apple/Samsung
  • Any form of jewellery
  • Earrings or any other body piercing
  • Tattoos
  • Mobile phones and headphones
  • Large metal-toothed combs
  • Any fake branded items; bags/belts

OPTIONAL ITEMS

  • A plain black lightweight headscarfs can be worn for religious reasons (this must not obscure the school tie)
  • An analogue watch
  • An outdoor jacket - must be removed on entry to the building

Hairstyles

As part of our commitment to high standards in personal presentation and discipline, the following expectations regarding hairstyles apply to all students at St Peter’s High School: 

General Expectations:

  • Hairstyles must be neat, tidy, and appropriate for a formal school environment.
  • Hair must be kept clean and well-groomed at all times.
  • Hair below shoulder length must be tied back
 

Unacceptable Hairstyles: The school does not permit children to have haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children.

  • No extreme hairstyles, including but not limited to: patterns shaved into the scalp, mohawks, or excessive undercuts.
  • No brightly coloured hair or unnatural hair dyes (e.g., blue, green, pink, etc.).
  • Hair must not cover the face or eyes at any time.
  • No excessive use of hair gel or products that create spiked or hardened styles. 
 

Hairspray, gels and lacquer should not be applied in school as they may have health and safety implications. A small ‘scrunchie’, hairband, clip or ribbon that is plain black or in a colour that naturally blends with the hair can be used to tie hair back. No large decoration in hair is allowed. Any hair beading should be small and coloured black, brown or clear. 

Pupils who fail to comply with these expectations may be removed from lessons or be placed in Restoration until the issue is resolved.

MAKEUP

  • A moderate amount of sympathetically applied foundation is allowed
  • Acrylic and other forms of false nails are not allowed
  • False eye-lashes are not allowed
  • Large amounts of fake tan is not allowed 

If students come into school with excessive make-up, fake tan or false eyelashes they will be expected to remove it before they enter the building. If a student comes into school wearing false nails they will be placed in an after-school detention. If they return to school still wearing fake nails, they will be placed in Restoration until they are removed.

PE WEAR

It is essential that pupils arrive to PE lessons equipped for learning with the correct uniform in order to participate safely in the specific activity being taught.

  • Maroon polo shirt with school logo
  • Plain black shorts
  • Indoor sensible sports shoes
  • Outdoor sensible sports shoes

OPTIONAL PE WEAR

  • St Peter’s outdoor sports leggings
  • St Peter’s outdoor sports jacket

If a student arrives to a PE lesson without the kit, they will be given a sanction, unless they have brought in a note from home.

Essential Equipment

  • Clear Pencil case
  • Two black pens and one purple pen (for assessment)
  • Pencil, sharpener, ruler and rubber
  • Scientific calculator

All these items must be carried in their school bag, not their blazer.

SUMMER UNIFORM

  • Maroon V-neck jumper with St. Peter’s crest (optional after May half term)
  • Students who usually wear a skirt to school will be permitted to wear knee-high socks instead of tights after May half term
  • Please ensure your child has a belt and is wearing it correctly with their school trousers

Health and Safety Requirements

  • It is necessary for all students with shoulder length hair to tie it back
  • In PE lessons, all jewellery must be removed to participate in the lesson
  • In some instances, safety equipment will be provided by the school e.g. safety goggles. These will be provided by the school.
  • Students are not allowed to carry any paraphernalia in their blazer, particularly drinks or food.
  • Trousers must be worn professionally above the waist.
  • Students should not wear their PE kit under their school uniform.

Non-adherence to the Uniform Policy

Staff will closely monitor pupils to ensure that they are in the correct uniform, every day. Where it is deemed a pupil is not in the correct uniform or where their general appearance does not fall in line with policy, this may be dealt with in a number of ways which may include:

  • Uniform report
  • After-school detention (up to 1-hour)
  • Social time exclusion at break or lunch
  • Parental contact
  • Internal exclusion
  • Substitute uniform
  • Meeting with the senior staff and the governors

If a student is not able to attend school with the correct uniform, parents/carers should contact the relevant Head of Year via, phone call, text message, email or letter. The Head of Year will issue a short-term Uniform Pass.

If there are issues such as financial hardship that is preventing a student complying with the uniform policy, parents/carers should inform the relevant Head of Year.

Senior Leaders reserve the right to act professionally based on the individual circumstances of any noncompliance issues
