St Peter’s celebrates an exceptional Ofsted report! 

We are delighted to share the outcome of our latest Ofsted inspection and what is a remarkable achievement for the whole St Peter’s community.

Following our inspection on 7 July 2026, St Peter’s was judged  ‘Exceptional’ in four areas: Attendance and Behaviour, Inclusion, Leadership and Governance, and Personal Development and Wellbeing.  Achievement and Curriculum and Teaching were both judged  ‘Strong’, with safeguarding standards also met.

This represents an exceptionally strong Ofsted profile. Under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, an  ‘Exceptional’  judgement is reserved for practice of the highest standard nationally, from which other schools can learn. To receive four Exceptional judgements is therefore an achievement of which our students, staff, governors, parents and carers can all be immensely proud.

While the judgements themselves are a wonderful recognition of the quality of our school, some of the words inspectors used to describe our students, our staff and our culture mean even more to us.

Ofsted recognised that our students appreciate the committed efforts of staff to provide them with the  “education, opportunities and care that genuinely change their lives.”  Inspectors found that students feel motivated to make the most of school each day, highly value their learning and progress through the curriculum with great confidence.

They also described students’ conduct in and around school as  “exemplary”, recognising a community characterised by kindness, respect and courtesy, where incidents of bullying or discrimination are extremely rare.

Our mission recognised by Ofsted

We are particularly proud that the report captures what lies at the very heart of St Peter’s.

Inspectors recognised our mission of “mutual love and care”  and the way in which leaders and staff work tirelessly alongside our young people to  “make the impossible, possible.”

Ofsted found that this commitment has a  “profound impact”  on students’ engagement with education, their readiness to succeed and their preparation for later life.

Our commitment to inclusion was also judged  ‘Exceptional’. Inspectors recognised the high-quality education provided for students with diverse starting points, needs and vulnerabilities and the highly effective support that enables them to overcome barriers, thrive and achieve success that  “transforms their lives.”

A school making an impact beyond its own community

Ofsted also recognised that the impact of St Peter’s reaches much further than our own school.

The report states that  “the school extends its positive influence well beyond its own community”, highlighting our long-standing contribution to developing teachers and our work contributing to national research into teacher recruitment and retention in areas of high deprivation.

A message from our Headteacher

There is so much in this report that makes me proud, but the comment that “pupils feel blessed to be a part of this school” means a great deal to me.

As Headteacher, I am not sure there could be a better compliment about our school than this.

I have always been incredibly proud of our students and staff, and I am delighted that Ofsted has recognised what we see every day at St Peter’s: wonderful young people who are a credit to themselves and their families, supported by staff who care deeply about them and are determined to help them succeed.

This achievement belongs to our whole school community. I would like to thank our students, staff and governors for everything they contribute to St Peter’s, and our parents and carers for the support and partnership they continue to show us.

We will take time to enjoy and celebrate this remarkable achievement. We will also continue to be ambitious for every young person entrusted in our care and remain true to our mission rooted in our Catholic faith.
