In March 2020, our Eco Schools Committee won the prestigious Manchester Youth Buzz Award in the ‘Making A Difference’ category.

Our eco committee, which comprises over 50 pupils from years 7 to 11, has spent the last two years helping St Peter’s to be more environmentally sustainable by planting trees, monitoring our energy use and encouraging school to adopt zero-carbon electricity. As a result St Peter’s has cut its carbon emissions by 56%, a reduction of 360 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Our eco committee pupils have also run climate education workshops with primary schools and the general public and presented to 300 trainee teachers at the University of Manchester. Through all this work we aim to empower our pupils to help Greater Manchester achieve its target to be a zero carbon city by 2038.
