During the Covid-19 lockdown, St Peter’s achieved the Eco Schools Bronze Award for our continuing work to become a sustainable, zero-carbon school. In the two years since we joined eco schools, our student eco committee has grown from 7 students to a dedicated team of over 50 young people from all year groups.

Our Eco Schools work encourages our whole school community to become ‘Stewards of God’s Creation’ as encouraged by Pope Francis and Bishop John Arnold. Our three Eco Schools areas of focus are energy, waste and grounds/biodiversity. Our students have planted trees and flowers in the school grounds; encouraged staff and students to save electricity; conducted litter picks; and run eco training workshops at public events, with primary schools and with trainee teachers at Manchester University.

All St Peter’s students are welcome to join our eco committee, which meets every week during Tuesday lunchtimes.
