The RRSA is designed so that together young people and the school community learn about children’s rights, putting them into practice every day.. In Rights Respecting Schools children’s rights are promoted and realised, whilst adults and children work towards this goal together.

There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.

The difference that a Rights Respecting School makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community. Children are healthier, safer and happier; have better relationships; become more active and involved in school life and the wider world.

 At the heart of the Award is a vision of education founded on Article 29 of the Convention which says that education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures and the environment.
