The term “equity” refers to fairness and justice, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances.
A gay Jewish Doctor who ran The Institute of Sexual Science a clinic that helped LGBTQ+ patients during the early 20th Century He advocated for LGBTQ+ rights and gender afforming care in a time it was illegal to be gay. He was later persecuted by the Nazis and forced to leave Germany, he fled to France where he died in 1933.
This is trans and LGBTQ+ activist Marsha P. Johnson, she is seen as a key figure in the liberation movement and is often attributed as throwing 'the first stone at Stonewall'. In June 1969 the Stonewall riots took place During this time, it was illegal to be gay, one evening the police raided a popular LGBTQ+ bar in New York called the Stonewall Inn. The police forced over 200 people out of the bar and onto the streets, and then used excessive violence against them. The people there fought back, and this is seen as the start of the LGBTQ+ liberation movement.
