Greater Manchester Green Summit

Just before Easter, seven of our Eco-Schools pupils attended the Mayor’s Green Summit at the Lowry Theatre. This high-level conference about Greater Manchester’s fight against climate change had over 2000 attendees from business, councils and other organisations across Greater Manchester.  It was led by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham and addressed by HRH The Prince of Wales and Lemn Sissay OBE, Poet and Chancellor of The University of Manchester.

Our pupils learned about Manchester’s world-leading goal to make our city zero carbon and zero waste by 2038, including what we can all do individually to help our city meet these essential targets and help keep global warming under 1.5 degrees. Our pupils also ran eco learning workshops for adults and pupils from other schools, learned how the city is growing more trees to improve local biodiversity and presented about green career options in front of the Mayor.
